Storybook Saturdays

Case Study

About the Design

The campaign I developed is for Storybook Saturdays, a program hosted by a local library where adults read a favorite children's story from their childhoods to children in their neighborhoods. The main tagline for the campaign is "We open worlds," meaning that not only does developing strong reading skills provide young people with new opportunities but also that each new story is a new world in itself. The campaign highlights both the joy and discovery of reading as well as the educational benefits.

The concept for the print campaign is to encourage adults to volunteer as a reader at the monthly Saturday morning sessions through nostalgia: reading your favorite children's story means both meeting your favorite friends and characters all over again and introducing them to a new generation. Thus, in design, each print material references a different classic children's book combined with a taglines related to how that particular book inspires wonder, imagination, and joy in the reader.

The Storybook Saturdays identity includes the simple logo with a bit of whimsy, bright and engaging color palette and photography, and the clean but relatable Whitney typeface. Pictured here are designs for the website, postcards, and a magazine and billboard ad.
